Privacy Policy — Wayp

Effective date: 19 July 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how personal data is processed in the mobile application “Wayp” (the “App”), developed by Jitae Kim (“we”, “us”). Wayp is a speedometer and trip-recording app that uses GPS to measure and display your driving speed and route in real time and to keep a history of your trips. This policy is written to satisfy the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as a global baseline, with a dedicated section for California residents (CCPA/CPRA).

Summary: All data the App processes — location, trip records and settings — is processed and stored only on your device. There is no account, no server transmission, and no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDK. We (the developer) do not collect, transmit or share any of your data with any third party.

1. Data Controller

(No Data Protection Officer is appointed; the controller may be contacted directly at the email above.)

2. Categories of Personal Data

The App does not require an account. Everything below is created and kept only on your device.

2-1. Location data (stored on-device only)

The App uses your device’s GPS to display your driving speed and route in real time and to record your trips. While a recording is in progress, location continues to be collected even when the screen is off or the App is in the background (background location updates). Location data is processed and stored only on your device and is never transmitted to any server operated by us or a third party.

2-2. Data you generate (stored on-device only)

Trip records are stored in on-device SwiftData and settings in on-device UserDefaults. iCloud (CloudKit) synchronization is not used, so this data never leaves your device.

2-3. Data collected automatically

The App uses no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDK, and therefore does not automatically collect any information that identifies or tracks you. The App contains no networking code that transmits data off the device. The only exception is that, when a map is shown, Apple Maps (MapKit) may contact Apple’s servers to load map tiles; this is governed by Apple’s privacy policy, and we collect no data in that process.

Purpose Legal basis
Measuring and displaying real-time speed and route Art. 6(1)(b) — performance of a contract
Storing and viewing trip records (on-device data only) Art. 6(1)(b) — performance of a contract
Retaining your app settings (unit, theme, etc.) Art. 6(1)(b) — performance of a contract

Because no data is transmitted off your device, no processing by us relies on consent or legitimate interest beyond providing the requested feature.

4. Recipients / Processors

We do not share your data with any third party and engage no processors. We use no external analytics, advertising or cloud services, and no data is transmitted off the device — including to us.

5. International Transfers

No personal data is transmitted off your device, so there are no international data transfers by us.

6. Retention

Item Retention
Location and trip records On-device only — retained until you delete them in the App or uninstall the App
App settings On-device only — retained until you uninstall the App

Uninstalling the App removes all on-device location, trip and settings data.

7. Your Rights under GDPR (Arts. 15–22)

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, and to object to processing, as well as to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Because all data is stored only on your device and we hold no copy, you exercise these rights directly:

Supervisory authorities. If you reside in the United Kingdom, your supervisory authority is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) — https://ico.org.uk/. If you reside in the EU or EEA, you may contact the data protection authority of your country of residence; the European Data Protection Board lists the national authorities at https://edpb.europa.eu/. To exercise any right or raise a question, contact wlxo0401@gmail.com.

8. California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)

The App collects no personal information from you and transmits none off your device. Accordingly, we do not sell and do not “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we collect no sensitive personal information. California residents nonetheless retain the rights to know, delete, and correct; because we hold no copy of your data, these are exercised directly in the App (delete records, or uninstall). Questions: wlxo0401@gmail.com.

Other US states. Residents of other US states with comparable consumer-privacy laws — including, without limitation, Virginia (VCDPA), Colorado (CPA), Connecticut (CTDPA), Utah (UCPA) and Texas (TDPSA) — may have similar rights. Because no data is collected off-device, these are likewise exercised directly in the App.

9. Automated Decision-Making

The App does not perform automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects under Art. 22 GDPR.

10. Children

The App is not directed to children under 16 (under 13 where COPPA applies) and does not knowingly collect personal data from children. The App collects no personal data off-device in the first place.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in-app or at the published URL. All prior versions are retained in the same repository, organized by effective date.
